Potosi – Uyuni Salt Flats
WHITE DESERTS, LAGOONS OF COLOUR
In the southwest of the department of Potosí, in the provinces Quijarro, Daniel Campos, and Nor and Sur Lipez, is Salar De Uyuni. It covers a surface area of 10.582 km2 and is located 3653m A.B.S.L. Uyuni Salt is the largest single salt pan in the world. It is estimated to contain 10 Billion tons of salt of which only 25,000 tons are extracted anually. Uyuni is so vast and so flat, (it rises and falls just one metre over an area the size of Wales), that N.A.S.A use the flats to calibrate their satelites. The Salar De Uyuni is also an integral part of the plot line in the latest James Bond movie "Quantum of Solace". This is the farthest away from Earth you will feel while you still have feet on this Planet!
