Titicaca Lake “Sahuiňa Project”

Overview

This program is based on Lake Titicaca, near to Copacabana. The local Community Sahiuna have developed a project which aims to revive the Culture of URUS IRUITU an ancient culture of people who constructed Islands made entirely from reeds, which they then built their homes on.

Location

This program is based in the Community of Sahuina - Province of Manco Kapac of the Department of La Paz, Municipality of Copacabana in the shores of Lake Titicaca, about 4 hours from the town centre of La Paz. Volunteers will work directly with the community and the placement and accommodation will be in Copacabana (a beautiful town on the shores of Titicaca).
Project life
On arrival in La Paz city, one of the representatives will pick you up and will bring you to the hotel for one night in La Paz, and then we will bring you to your project.
If you are already in La Paz, we will bring you to the project in Sawina - Copacabana. Once you have settled in and unpacked, we will introduce you to the Community in the project and they will give you a nice “Welcome” and they will introduce their selves and will show you the surroundings. Although basic Spanish is not obligatory, any practice before going would be helpful.
You will join the Community in their daily routine. Your average working day will be from 7:30am until 4pm with an hour and a half for lunch. Volunteers will help the community with the day-to-day tasks on the Islands, notably showing the tourists around some of the Islands, and they will also really appreciate your help building the Community Lodge.
Depending on what individual projects are going on at the time of your arrival, you will be informed about the type of help that will be required from you a few weeks before you arrive. There are always different tasks needing to be done.
Accommodation and food
During the two weeks placement, you will be living in a Hostel in Copacabana or in the same Sawina town, near to Kasani. A continental breakfast will be provided and you will have facilities to make lunch and dinner. The main town near the Community is Copacabana although in Kasani you will find all amenities as well. We require the volunteers to stay for a minimum of 15 days. DA

You can start at any time throughout the year (although the communities prefer to have support during the dry season - May to September)

Return transfers from the airport to Sawina Town are included
International flights are not included
Please arrange your flight to the international airport of La Paz.

All of Twin's volunteer placements are in partnership with recognized Charities, Non Governmental Organizations (NGO's), government ministries or registered agents, giving you the confidence to work with reputable organizations.
Comprehensive insurance is available for each of the volunteer placements.

Volunteers building schools

Cobija – Pando Bolivia



Along with the assistance of rural municipalities we are helping local communities by donating, Hospital equipment, medicines, building classrooms, playgrounds and improving communal areas.  You could be part of this positive action.

Location

The project is located in the north of Bolivia in the Department of Pando and in its capital Cobija. It has an average altitude of only 280M ABSL. Pando’s economy is derived from the harvesting chestnuts and latex. This Department is the least densely populated in Bolivia.

Volunteer duties

You will support with the construction or improvement of a public areas eg. Classrooms, toilets, showers, etc. You will help educate the community about handling used water and the responsible disposing of rubbish.

We will provide expenses for public transport that will cover your return trip to and from the Project in el Tholar.

Services not included

Extra expenses and drinks. The air fare from any origin to Cobija (eg. air ticket La Paz to Cobija 250 USD)   
Accommodation: You will stay in a room with a local family house in Cobija city.

 


Working with learning disabilities people in Cusco

Project life

On arrival in Cusco city, one of the representatives will pick you up and will bring you to the hotel or family accommodation in Cusco, and then we will bring you to your project.
If you are already in Cusco, we will bring you to the project. Once you have settled in and unpacked, we will introduce you to the staff, they will give you a nice “Welcome” and they will introduce their selves and will show you the surroundings. Although basic Spanish is not obligatory, any practice before going would be helpful.
You will join the Organisation in their daily routine. Your average working day will be from 9:0 am until 6pm with a 2 hours for lunch. Volunteers will help the organization with the day-to-day tasks.  
Depending on what individual projects are going on at the time of your arrival, you will be informed about the type of help that will be required from you a few weeks before you arrive. There are always different tasks needing to be done from teaching English to helping the administration to raise funds for the project.

Accommodation and food

During the whole placement, you will be living in a Family accommodation in Cusco, if you prefer you can live independently in a hostel. You will have access to a communal kitchen to prepare your own food or share with the rest of the staff and children. We require the volunteers to stay for a minimum of 15 days.

Hostelling / Ceramic workshop in Ollantaytambo

 

Project life

On arrival in Cusco city, one of the representatives will pick you up and will bring you to the hotel for one night in Cusco, and then we will bring you to your project in the sacred valley of Incas – Ollantaytambo.
If you are already in Cusco, we will bring you to the project. Once you have settled in and unpacked, we will introduce you to the staff in the beautiful lodge. You will have time to visit the surroundings of the town. Although basic Spanish is not obligatory, any practice before going would be helpful.
You will join the Eco lodge staff in their daily routine. Your average working day will be from 7:30 am until 4pm with an hour and half for lunch. Volunteers will help either the hotel’s administration in marketing or in the ceramic workshop.  
Depending on what individual projects are going on at the time of your arrival, you will be informed about the type of help that will be required from you a few weeks before you arrive. There are always different tasks needing to be done from administration tasks, teaching English to the staff or teaching new techniques in the ceramic workshop.
You can coordinate your time and help in the local Museum as well.

You will have access to a communal kitchen to prepare your own food or share with the rest of the staff and children. We require the volunteers to stay for a minimum of 15 days.
